Starspawn and Other Stories by Cyril Simsa

Starspawn is the second collection from Cyril Simsa, featuring stories of lost times, lost places, lost peoples, lost realities – shadows out of time and shadowy glimpses of various improbable times to come...

Who was the woman who inspired the classic black and white movie, Cat People?  Where do you go, when rogue geneticists put you through an illegal programme of cryptogenomics and let you loose on the Berkshire countryside?  What do you do, when the security services record your consciousness and then switch to "Shuffle"?

Includes four reprints and two originals.

"[Simsa's] earlier collection Lost Cartographies focused mostly on central Europe and Cyril’s Czech background. In Starspawn and other stories, the majority of the stories take place in England as Cyril’s characters are drawn back into the deep roots of this sceptred isle – the Ancient Britain of the Ancient Britons and their theology; the world of Pan, Hecate and the then extant and uncut Middlesex Forest. Cyril is invoking the literary ghost of Arthur Machen but very much putting his own, modern spin on the oeuvre." Allen Ashley, from his Afterword

"['Starspawn'] interjects a deft portrayal of the 1980s London music scene with supernatural incursions." – John Clute, The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction

Available direct from the publisher on Abebooks

Cyril Simsa is an Anglo-Czech writer (born in London to Czech parents, but now living in Prague), with stories and articles in a range of genre publications, including Electric Velocipede, The Encyclopedia of Fantasy, BBR, and Wormwood. His previous collection is Lost Cartographies: Tales of Another Europe (Invocations Press, 2014).
