The 2008 British Science Fiction Awards ceremony took place at the 60th Eastercon convention, LX, at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford. The lavish ceremony was hosted by John Jarrold, Paul Macauley and Kim Newman, and the following awards were presented:
 
Best Novel 2008 - The Night Sessions by Ken Macleod (Orbit)
Best Short Fiction 2008 - Exhalation by Ted Chiang (Eclipse 2)
Best Non-Fiction 2008 - Rhetorics of Fantasy by Farah Mendlesohn (Wesleyan)
Best Artwork 2008 - Cover of Subterfuge by Andy Bigwood (Newcon Press)
 
The awards were presented by Tim Powers, Alastair Reynolds and Jon Courtney Grimwood. The awards themselves were stunning pieces of photographic art created by Paul and Elizabeth Billinger.
 
After the ceremony, attendees were treated to a cheese and wine reception, compliments of the BSFA.
 
The BSFA Awards are voted for by members of the BSFA and Eastercon. The shortlist was drawn up earlier this year from nominations received by members of the BSFA and the final vote was held on the 11th April 2009, followed by the ceremony. Works published in the UK for the first time in 2008 were eligible for these awards,
